Local stores give our towns character

It’s our locally-owned one-of-a-kind businesses that create the truly distinctive character of our Oahu towns. Its these little shops and restaurants that jump to mind when you think about what makes our towns special and gives them “personality.”

There are hundreds of Hawaii-owned and  independent businesses on Oahu and we aim to make it easy for shoppers to find these stores and “Buy Nearby”!

When you shop at locally-owned and independent business much more of your money stays in the community — which helps to make a stronger and more vibrant local economy

Before you shop at the “Big Box”

It would be great if  shoppers think about buying nearby first when they are considering where to make purchases.

In addition to helping the local economy, shopping nearby saves travel time and gas and is much better for the environment.  A round-trip drive from Kailua to Honolulu in the average car produces 19 pounds of CO2, cut out one trip over the Pali a week and you’ll save 988 pounds of CO2 in a year!

How to “Buy Nearby”

Look for the “Mahalo for Shopping Local” signs in store windows. You can also find a directory of locally-owned businesses in the navigation bar at left. (Note we’re just getting started.)
